Council as an elected body has the right
Last night's discussion on proposed changes to regulations regarding the use of electronic message display signs in some areas of Brookings had a side issue that I feel is a problem.
When an amendment was offered to send the proposed changes back to the Commission for changes(the amendment passed and the motion also passed on a 4-3 vote). Planning Commission Chair Justin Hyde commented that all information was considered and there would not be any changes that would be made.
The Planning Commission serves at the pleasure of the Council. Council Members serve at the pleasure of the voters. I am responsible for making sure people's views and thoughts are heard and I do the best possible job representing them when voting. If they don't like how I vote they have the right to vote me out of office. That gives the Council the right to send back the proposal and ask for changes.
