As usual the process tarnishes a good thing.
One of my biggest issues with government, local through federal, is an idea that the majority will agree with becomes negative because of the method used to get it done. The method used to fund a proposed center at SDSU to store and make available former Senator Daschle's files and papers is the latest example. The funding was put into another important bill and dropped in at a point that forces our leaders to vote it up or down without a chance to remove the section on funding the center.
I personally believe that the center is a good idea. I did not approve of his actions as a Senator and the Majority Leader. But he was a Senator and Majority Leader and his papers are a part of our history that needs to be preserved. Plus SDSU and Brookings will benefit from the exposure of hosting the center.
When something like this happens you will always hear "hate the game not the players". The players can change the game and we get to select the players. We need to select better players.
