Yankton's .com vs .info War

Yankton's Daily the Press & Dakotan had two articles this morning covering the newyankton.com vs. newyankton.info.  I was checking in on newyankton.com knowing that Jeff Weldon was a top candidate for the City Manager here in Brookings.  Having a local issues blog and a being a Council Member I read the articles and then checked out www.newyankton.info. I wish www.newyankton.com was still up so you could see the difference and why newyankton.com accomplished what it was set out to do and newyankton.info is useless.

First of all using the same domain name and just changing the extension from .com to .info was uninspiring.  Newyankton was a creative name that simply said what it was trying to accomplish.  Using the same name says we not interested in moving forward just trying to show the other group they are wrong.

Newyankton.com was very clear who they where and what they wanted to accomplish.  The site was more about the recall effort versus newyankton.info's verbal bashing of those who lead the recall effort.  Making the issue personal with negative attacks doesn't work with local politics.

Last but very important is issue web sites must be user friendly and visually appealing with periodic updates.  Not a one time blast of poorly organized information.  I'll be honest I didn't read much of because of design and readability.

Newyankton.com got people involved to complete a very successful recall petition drive.  Newyankton.com will not change any one's mind and only make good conversation about the website war on the streets of Yankton.
