Something Better
Terry Vandrovec SDSU sports beat writer for the Argus Leader posted the following in his follow-up blog entry to two articles about SDSU and the D-I transition.
"Right now, the athletic department is getting its feet set, largely getting up to speed rather than getting ahead. But beginning next year, it will no longer be a swelling Division II school, it will be a full-fledged Division I institution. And five years after that, the Jacks will have some in-state company as the University of South Dakota will be through its transition. By that time, half of the old NCC will be in Division I - with perhaps more on the way. So will SDSU be content to settle in to old rivalries bearing new costs, or will it use the momentum made possible by the foresight of its leaders to become something better?"
I thought this was a great point that State could fall back to the comfort zone of previous NCC foes since two more are making the transition. Knowing the current SDSU Administration I believe that the momentum will be used to better the University. But will the fans have the patience to create new rivalries and stick with the The Summit League as it improves its image?
