Coal Train Project Not Going Away

A very timely AP article by Dennis Gale interviews Senator Thune regarding DM&E and the proposed Coal Train Project that will run through Brookings.  Although the article focuses more on the Senator's relationship with the railroad business, Thune does say that economics will force the completion of the project. The article reminds us that we can't just ignore the possibility of multiple coal trains traveling through Brookings at high speeds because DM&E was refused a federal loan.

Tuesday night the Brookings Railroad Safety Committee presents it's final report.  The Committee was formed after a successful referendum to repeal the Community Partnership Agreement negotiated by the Council.   Although the report provides no new information it represents what community members want for safety mitigation.   The Council will have to create a strategy to try to accomplish what the community wants.
