Brunner appointed to City Council

The Brookings City Council appointed former SDSU Student Association President Ryan Brunner to replace Council Member Mike Reitz who resigned from his seat.  Ryan is a Student and Research Associate at SDSU and will be a resident of Brookings for at least 2 more years pursuing his masters degree.  A ballot method was used to nominate a candidate.  My nominee selection was Ryan.  He received 4 nomination ballots and was unanimously appointed by the Council.  The other two nominations were for Al Gregg.

The appointment process should not be political.  Easier said than done since Council business normally involves politics.  The candidate should be judged on skills and experience versus ideology and opinions.  In my opinion Ryan edged out Al  because of his success in getting the SDSU Wellness Center approved.  He took an issue and lead the charge for his constituents.  I felt Ryan Brunner was a proven leader!
